Zum Neujahr grüßen wir mit einem Schatz der Filmgeschichte: „Conquest of the Pole“ ist ein 30-minütiger Science-Fantasy-Film von Georges Méliès nach einem Buch von Jules Verne. Die Parodie über den Wettlauf rivalisierender Parteien zum Nordpol hat interessante cineastische Features, insbesondere wenn man die Ikonographie von vor über 100 Jahren und die einfachen technischen Mittel der Zeit bedenkt! Köstlich ist, wie zu dieser Zeit die arktische Landschaft und der Nordpol gesehen werden: hier gibt es Eisspitzen, Monolithen mit Kristall-Struktur und sogar einen Schneeriesen … – Genießt es! As a New Year’s greeting we herewith point to a 30 minute video which shows a treasure of film history: „Conquest of the Pole“ is a science fantasy film by Georges Méliès based on a book of Jules Verne. It is a parody dealing with a race to the north pole by rival parties. Some charming cinematographic highlights, given the iconography and simple technical features – note this is 100 years old! Delicious how the landscape and the North Pole is seen at this time, with ice spires, crystalline monoliths, a Snow Giant – just enjoy.
